Today’s Picnic was a huge success and it was the official viewing of our completed Sensory Gardens. So let us remind you what’s been going on!
Well, what a fantastic place to be in our journey.-! This is what collaboration and working in partnership results in.
The journey for our woodland began with TCV (The Conservation Volunteers) and the Wellness Community Partnership Outreach team who worked tirelessly every Thursday in conjunction with us to clear our site, with professional guidance from the conservation volunteers on what to keep and what to remove. We made a jungle into a haven!
Libby, the manager of the Wellness Community Partnership even secured funding to pay for stage one of the TCV work. Libby then helped us to apply for and secure further funding from the Enterprise Grant- Ellesmere Port Community Fund. With this second round of funding, TCV, the Wellness Community outreach team, our own volunteers and the generosity of Westland with tons of free woodchip, we completed the pathways through the woodland, creating meandering pathways as part of stage two. The remainder of funding went towards accessible raised beds built for us by Men In Sheds Ellesmere Port. It also went towards the purchase of plants to plant up the raised bed sensory garden and complete stage two. John Carlin at Westland came good again and donated free compost to this part of the project.
Barbara at Flynns Community Food Hub has come up trumps with plants from Morrisons, passed onto us. And food that would have been thrown away, has helped feed people at our events such as our summer 2026 BBQ and our Picnic in September 2026. Plus loaned us a van and driver (Rob).

Steve from Burns Close Allotments, Sammy from Edward Street Allotments, Kath from Wolverham Community Centre and our Mayor John Stockton and the Lady Mayoress Bev Stockton who continue to follow us with interest.
We would be lost without this kind support from outside agencies and companies. And,of course, never forgetting our own band of allotment volunteers who turn up to help time after time and are a constant support to what we do…you know who you are!
The biggest thank you goes out to everyone…
We still have a long way to go. But the future looks bright, with a two-year collaboration with Chester Zoo and the Networks for Nature project and Jake at EP News helping us with developing our social media presence.

🌱 A Big Thank You to Westland
We are delighted to say a huge thank you to Westland for another very generous donation to Overpool Allotment Association — 20 bags of JI Compost!
The compost will be put to excellent use across our allotment site, helping our members grow and making a real contribution to the work we are doing in our community.
We were once again made to feel very welcome when collecting the donation, with the staff on the gate and the forklift driver being so friendly and helpful.
We are incredibly grateful for Westland's continued support. It really does make a difference to what we are able to achieve here at Overpool.
We have invited John and his family to join us at our Allotment Picnic on Saturday 5th September at 2.00pm, where we hope to show them around our site, including our woodland project, and share how much a little outside support can mean to a community allotment.
And, of course, we are especially grateful that Richard an allotment holder with us, who works at Westland, chose to ask them to support Overpool Allotment Association!

🎉 Great News! We've Secured the Maximum Postcode Lottery Grant
We are delighted to announce that Overpool Allotment Association has been successful in its application to the People's Postcode Lottery Community Programme.
We have been awarded the maximum grant of £2,000, which will fund a new 2m x 3m galvanised storage shed for the site. The total cost, including delivery, is approximately £4 more than the grant amount, with the Association covering the difference.
This new shed will provide secure storage for equipment and help support the ongoing maintenance and development of our allotments.
A huge thank you to the People's Postcode Lottery players for making grants like this possible and supporting community projects such as ours.
