Welcome to Overpool Allotments Association

We are a local Allottment Association group. Set up in June 2024.  Non profit making, voluntary group. Our aim is to support our members and families on a daily basis, and encourage involvement with the woodland development project we are currently working on. 

We have fundraised and bought or been given to date, mowers, rotavator, strimmers and around 40 hand tools - spades, forks, trimmers, shears, hoes, rakes, wheelbarrows, saws, trowels, dibbers, hoses, shovels and smaller DIY tools ie hammers, screwdrivers etc. Also composts, fertilisers, seed trays, pots, etc

We offer ongoing support and advice to one another - sharing our experience. We have a 'tool library' which is an essential part of starting up on the allotment, keeping costs to a minimum for plotholders. As they can borrow rather than purchase. 

As we grow and develop we want to offer our woodland facility to our wider community.

We are currently clearing an overgrown area of woodland at the allotments to develop into a community hub. Woodland walks, sensory gardens, bushcraft, growing beds, foraging, bug hotels, relaxation areas, play/camp building areas, bird/bat boxes etc. The project has the support of our members and families, friends and other voluntary organisations including the conservation trust - Neil and his team from the conservation trust are doing groundwork for us, with funding we secured.

We want to provide mental support, practical support, learning, recreation, work experience for our members, families, school groups, additional needs groups and elderly within our community. The area we live is a more deprived area. Only 10% of neighbourhoods in England are more deprived. This is as per the Index of multiple deprivation. We want to open our facility as it develops to support, encourage and inspire marginalised or vunerable communities.

The activities we are going to provide, will help with peoples mental heath, well being, learning and personal development and increased self worth. Also bringing a valuable facility to the people in our catchment area.

As per our Constitution, governance of the association means our members have a vested interest in playing a part in decisions made for the good of the organisation. 

We communicate regularly with our members through a whatsapp group and encourage discussion and suggestions for the benefit of the the organisation. There is also the chance to participate in General Meetings.

The day to day management is left to the delegated committee of management who were voted in.

Decisions are moved forward by majority vote.

Finances are managed and agreed by the committee, but actioned by one of the three officers elected - chair, treasurer and secretary.

We are a relatively small allotment site with just 27 plots. But are lucky enough to have an additional area of woodland 45m x 45m, which is the area we are developing.

Plotholders and their families (adults and children) currently number around 60.

We are also supporting other groups who come weekly and do outreach work on our site in the woodlands.
